It has been claimed that up to 90% of the pregnant women develop stretch marks at the final trimester of pregnancy if not at the first or second. Stretch marks tend to get less noticeable during the period after delivery. But they still remain in many of us even after having lost weight after having a baby.
So if you are pregnant or just delivered or even if it is have been a while, I recommend it is never late to start. One of the reasons of stretch marks formation in pregnant women is due to expansion of the abdomen leading to stretching of the skin.
But don’t worry because there are plenty of ways to remove stretch marks after pregnancy. I’m about to list out the methods but will warn you that not all women respond to the methods the same way with the same effectiveness.
So it is up to you to try them and get to know which method suits you best. Buy only those stretch mark cream or lotions that contain cocoa butter and apply them daily to moisturize your skin and improve its elasticity.
You can purchase pure aloe vera gels from health food stores or pharmacies and apply them twice daily to newly formed tears in the skin as they help to immensely reduce its appearance. If your marks are relatively new, then enquire your dermatologist about tretinoin creams as they are prescription-only creams but are sure to minimize the appearance of the marks.
Another method to reduce its appearance is by exfoliation of the skin with apricot pits, algae or finely ground shells. But remember not to exfoliate more than twice every week.
Blue light therapy, which is a common method to remove tattoos, can be resorted to if other methods fail. Before you fix an appointment for one, do consult your dermatologist. The last resort will be the plastic surgery which is totally an expensive way to remove the appearance of marks. Some of the things to remember are:
- Always be patient with whichever remedy method you choose and give a couple of months before you pass the verdict.
- For those who are pregnant or breastfeeding, nip it off the bud by consulting your doctor on the use of tretinoin creams.
- Ensure that you have cocoa butter cream, exfoliates, pure aloe vera gel and prescription tretinoin creams.
